Mega Suryaurja Private Limited (MSUPL ISTS II) operates a 250 MW solar power plant as part of a total installed capacity of 335 MW. The project forms an important component of India’s growing renewable energy infrastructure and contributes to the country’s transition toward sustainable and clean power generation.
The Mega Suryaurja solar power plant is located in Kolayat town in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan. Kolayat is known as a significant pilgrimage site, attracting visitors for its religious and cultural heritage. The region also offers a unique blend of historical and spiritual significance, making it an important destination within the state.
Geographically, the project is situated close to the Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, a region characterized by extremely low rainfall, high solar irradiation, and temperatures that can reach up to 50°C during peak summer months. These climatic conditions make the area highly suitable for solar power generation, enabling the plant to operate with strong solar resource availability throughout the year.
The project is connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), which is part of India’s high-voltage electricity grid infrastructure. This connectivity allows the plant to efficiently evacuate power and distribute electricity across state boundaries, ensuring reliable transmission to key demand centres.
Electricity generated by the project contributes to meeting the energy needs of Bikaner city, which is recognized as a major tourist hub in Rajasthan In addition to supporting local demand, the plant strengthens the broader interstate renewable energy supply network, helping improve grid stability and contributing to India’s national renewable energy targets.
